The Iota Phi Chapter of Theta Chi prides itself of its involvement in Philanthropy. We have outstanding presence at all campus philanthropy events and have won a number of sorority philanthropies. Theta Chi has national philanthropy partnership with the United Service Organizations. This group volunteers to help uniformed service members of our country in any way possible from toiletry drives for deployed personnel to fun activities for the children of their families. Because of this, our chapter volunteers a few weekends per month at Fort Jackson for things like serving food and send off parties for soldiers going overseas.
Iota Phi’s main philanthropy events are Hope4Hoge and Theta Christmas. Theta Christmas is a toy drive that benefits Toys for Tots where each member is encouraged to donate a few toys. Then, there is a social event connected to the toy drive where dates are also encouraged to bring presents. Last year, we collected over 100 toys.
For the 2015-2016 school year, we plan on hosting Theta Christmas for the second time and we are also looking into planning a Hoops for Troops basketball tournament. Our newest fundraiser which is closest to our hearts is The Hope 4 Hoge cookout/softball tournament to raise money for spinal research. This event came into existence when one of our brothers, Michal Hoge, had an accident which damaged his spine. He is doing well in recovery and we want to support the cause. We hope that this event not only becomes a staple of philanthropy for Theta Chi but also for the entire school.
